Safer Recipient Fields and Email Checks

Nicki Pabst
Co-founder & Email wizard

This week makes it easier to build accurate audience segments, catch email issues before export, and keep shared libraries permission-safe.

More precise recipient fields

Salesforce Marketing Cloud date fields now work more naturally in segments. Teams can build date-based rules with conditions such as on, not on, before, after, empty, and not empty instead of treating calendar values like plain text.

Admins can also guide marketers toward approved text values for recipient fields, then choose whether exceptions are allowed. Strict fields prevent new out-of-list values while older saved values continue to work.

More accurate email checks

Email checks can now cover more of the review process, including copy, brand, links, images, accessibility, placeholders, file size, and rules your team has configured. Reviewers can inspect findings in preview, dismiss false positives, turn them into comments, or ask Betty to help fix them.

Segmented emails are now checked separately for each audience version. VIP, fallback, or other audience-specific blocks no longer create misleading warnings as if every version appears to the same recipient.

Improvements

  • Template developers can give Betty uploaded .html files or pasted notes as context, making it easier to adapt existing creative or campaign guidance.
  • Marketers can ask Betty to insert recipient fields from a searchable catalog instead of remembering exact field names while personalizing copy.
  • Email library filters now include a created-by option, making it easier to find work from a specific teammate.

Fixes

  • Folder permissions now carry through nested folders and into the email workspace, so restricted users no longer see or open emails outside their access.
  • Folder counts now stay trustworthy for restricted users, making the email sidebar easier to scan for folders they can read.
  • Expired invitations can be resent from the invite dialog instead of being blocked by the previous invitation.
  • Exports now respect the minify setting, and subject or preview-text checks no longer block integrations that do not support those fields.

Email Workspace and Template Authoring

This week's updates add Render Context for template authors, improve setup controls, and fix issues where migrated emails could appear blank, outdated, or difficult to publish.

Render Context for template authors

Template authors can now use Render Context in Liquid to read facts Better Email already knows about the current email, including subject line, preview text, selected integration, preview mode, and included modules.

That makes templates easier to reuse across real campaign variations. A template can mirror the subject line in a hero headline, show integration-specific legal copy, or check whether a marketer included a required footer module before adding a fallback.

Improvements

  • Template authors can add a merge tag selector to Link inputs, so marketers can personalize product links, preference-center URLs, and campaign tracking links without copying tag syntax by hand.
  • Admins can assign groups while inviting users, so new teammates get the right access as soon as they join.
  • Admins can add a BIMI logo while setting up a new integration, preview it inline, and finish with the normal save-and-close flow.
  • Template version descriptions generated from changes now reflect the actual HTML, module, setting, and input updates, making revision history easier to scan.

Fixes

  • Email thumbnails now appear for newly created emails, refresh after edits, and open in larger hover previews without being cut off.
  • Send Test is available again from the email workspace, and HTML, PDF, and PNG downloads now match the rendered email that reviewers see.
  • Emails based on shared templates now show the shared template content and name instead of blank modules or raw template identifiers.
  • Agillic exports now include the required campaign block and stay pinned to the selected template revision.
  • Betty no longer changes fixed brand colors into editable color fields unless custom colors are intended.

  • The SendGrid setup guide is now available, including API key setup, region and subuser settings, and how repeated exports map to SendGrid Dynamic Template versions.
  • Teams that send through Outlook can now download an Outlook-ready .eml draft instead of copying rendered HTML by hand.
  • The email library can now create, search, filter, sort, move, trash, restore, clone, and bulk-export emails from the updated workspace.
  • Client Previews are now available in the template editor and standalone template preview, with improved preview cards and keyboard navigation for moving through previews faster.
  • Review preview can now show all variants together, making it easier to check personalized emails before approval, export, or handoff.
  • Admins can now choose who is allowed to override review checks before export.
  • Template authors can now use conditional module visibility, so modules can appear only when the relevant inputs or conditions apply.

  • Betty can now handle SVG uploads and feed questions, and assets can now include MP3 files.
  • Klaviyo exports now sync integration settings more consistently, keeping exported templates aligned with the selected integration.

Fixes

  • URL fields now make HTTPS requirements clearer while still accepting approved non-web and personalized links.
  • Send Test now lets you fully clear the recipient field instead of filling it back in automatically.
  • Template revision history now refreshes after changes, so teams can see the latest revision state without leaving the page.
  • The new-email template picker now includes templates created in the updated template experience.
  • Client Previews now stay visible while preview data is loading or refreshing.
  • Segment navigation now includes custom integrations, and "Everybody else" previews stay on the fallback variant.

  • When you open a resource from another organization, Better Email now switches to the right org automatically.

  • Pop-out template preview is available again, making it easier to review templates in a larger dedicated view.
  • Template access labels are clearer, so teams can better understand who can edit, review, or use a template.
  • Templates shared into a workspace are now treated as read-only where appropriate, helping prevent accidental edits to templates owned elsewhere.
  • The updated template editor layout is cleaner and easier to scan during daily editing.

Fixes

  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud exports now preserve subject line and preheader data from older template metadata.
  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud subject line fallbacks now use the right saved value when a template has older sender settings.

Nicki Pabst

  • Review checks now appear sooner and include hover descriptions, making blockers easier to understand before approval.
